PALISI Approved Survey:

The perception of Healthcare Providers Regarding VTE and Bleeding

Dear colleagues

We are conducting an international survey to help better understand the perception of healthcare providers regarding venous thromboembolism (VTE) and bleeding from pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis in the pediatric population. The aims of this survey are: (1) to determine the perceived relative clinical significance of venous thromboembolism and bleeding from pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis, and (2) to identify factors that modify this.

The survey contains 4 cases consisting of different types of VTE: asymptomatic deep vein thrombosis, symptomatic deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism without hemodynamic compromise and pulmonary embolism with hemodynamic compromise.  Each case will consist of 2 parts where the perceived risks of VTE and bleeding from pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis will be described. We request that you provide the likelihood that you will provide pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis based on these risks if confronted clinically with such a case.  Before the cases, we will request for your demographic information.

You have been chosen to complete this survey because you are involved in the decision making of children receiving pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis. The survey should take approximately 5 to 10 mins to complete. Your participation is completely voluntary and you may choose to not participate. All information will be kept confidential and your responses anonymous. Identifiable data will not be collected. There is no direct benefit nor cost for your participation. By submitting a response, you consent to participate in the survey research. This survey was reviewed and given exempt status by the IRB at University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria. Please contact Robert Huibonhoa, MD at huibonhr@uic.edu for any questions, comments or concerns.

Thank you very much for your time. We truly appreciate your involvement with this project.
